CEDAR prototype and data mining demonstrations showing at BD2K All-Hands

November 12, 2015

A prototype CEDAR system and user interface, and an early look at data mining research and possible application, were demonstrated at the BD2K All-Hands meeting November 12 and 13.  The CEDAR team showed the prototype and example during the BD2K poster session, to interested visitors at the CEDAR poster.

The prototype user interface demonstrate’s CEDAR’s capability to create metadata templates, which in turn allow users to create metadata records. The templates are based on known standards, and create a framework within which CEDAR can suggest allowable and best values, and provide validation and feedback if unexpected input is received.

Data analytics research performed by Dr. Maryam (Mary) Panahiazar powered the second demonstration, which showed how previous metadata summaries can be used to predict the most likely entries in a new metadata record. While still in the preliminary stage, Dr. Panahiazar’s work both illustrates the principles involved, and has begun to identify the largest opportunities for optimizing user data entry in the CEDAR system.
